Becoming a Fiction Writer

When prods come in threes

It's often observed that "things come in threes" ... and sometimes it's even true. This week, my trifecta came in the form of pushes to start doing some "real" writing again.
  1. I missed out on a writing job that would've been financially fantastic, but tied me further to fast, internet-style journalism
  2. My husband told me out of the blue that he thought I should start writing more literature and more "soul-satisfying" work
  3. I read this quote from Samuel Johnson in a writing newsletter: "What is written without effort is in general read without pleasure."
So the message seems clear: stop talking about it, stop procrastinating by always focusing on the writing that pays the bills, and get creative. Okay world, I get the message and I'll really try!
